Its been a long time, I shouldnt have left you... without a dope beat to step to! I cant believe I let June slip away without posting anything... It was a crazy month though to say the least. Anyway, here I am with another up and coming artist who is pure; Bobby Creekwater! I have been seeing his name on a lot of material but I was passing on giving his stuff a spin. Then, I had time so I decided to peep this joint; "Don't Be A Hero" and had to start finding more information and songs by him.

Eminem found this guy and signed him to Shady Records so I'm hoping to hear him on a Dr. Dre beat some time soon!

I have not been disappointed and have quickly become a fan. He's from the ATL but doesn't really do the bounce thing or even use a lot of southern sounding beats. Sounds like he's from that mid 90's east coast era but still has a southern twang and ganster swag. A good ear for beats too which is always a plus. Anyway, I've posted three tracks for you to get familiar with the phenomenon that is Bobby Creekwater: Enjoy!

I usually don't endorse the lyrically un-inclined (is that a word?) type rappers but they do make a good song every now and then... With that said, allow me to introduce OJ da Juiceman featuring R. Kelly- Superman High! I can't stop playing this song everywhere I go and I can't wait for these slow a$$ DJs in MPLS to start playing it in the parties! Catch up...

New R&B Mixes

Isn't it interesting how you can communicate through music? I especially appreciate R&B love songs and songs about the complexity of romantic relationships. Music has helped me get through some trying times, its helped me recall and re-experience beautiful moments, its helped me express feelings I couldn't quite articulate on my own accord, and its allowed me to understand other peoples' feelings. It truly is a wonderful thing... With that said, allow me to introduce a few R&B mixtapes I've put together over the years that tell stories- but don't read too far into them (LoL)!!

The first is a 2-part saga... I'll just call it Moving Mountains Vol I & II. The first part tells the story of a couple in love, who face some serious obstacles. One of those stories is about a man who wants his woman back after he's made mistakes. He makes some changes but getting her back proves not to be as easy as he may have hoped... You'll wonder how it ends... but it doesnt! Features songs by J. Holiday, Alicia Keys, Bobby V, Keyshia Cole, Anthony Hamilton, Jagged Edge, Mario, Sade, Jaheim, Usher (title song), Jay-Z (yes Jigga made the cut!), and Musiq Soulchild.

Part two picks up later on in life... It tells a harsh story that deals with the resentment both parties feel toward the other and progresses into healing only to find that the feelings are still there- and they may or may not be mutual or even real! If that's not reality, then I will just quit now. Relationships can be very confusing and this mix really addresses those complexities and intertwined emotions that make or break bonds. I'm not sure where I will go with Vol III... Featuring Stevie Wonder, N.E.R.D., Kanye West, Beyonce, The Dream, Ryan Leslie, John Legend, Prince, Jill Scott, and Ginuwine.

My third mix features good music by Avant, Tank, Joe, Dave Hollister, and Ginuwine. This is a good one. The story behind this one isn't as complex and the Moving Mountains series but its good in its own right! I call it "We've Come Too Far." This one starts off with a man who is looking for love and finds it. No relationship is perfect so we take it there but then evaluate whether its a relationship worth working for and end with Dave Hollister's song; Destiny. Very well put together if I must say so myself.

Two more- for now! The first is called "Enchanted" and it features Joe, Usher and Jamie Foxx. This one sets the mood so be careful! I also have a seriously ill Jodeci mix that requires contraception before playing, unless your goal is a make a baby... because that is exactly what will happen if you pop this mix in unprepared- STRAIGHT UP!! HAAAAAAAAA...

Jay said it best on Renegade, "do you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it?" Pay Attention!!

Lupe Fiasco

So I had my iTunes DJ going when I came across Lupe Fiasco's Dumb It Down.... Basically, I turned the DJ function off at that point and put that joint on repeat! How could I have forgotten about the jedi and let him slip out of my rotation? I know he flies over the heads of many but in these days and times when I don't even listen to rap (cuz this new crap mostly is not hip hop), I need him to remind me that true emcees do indeed continue to breathe, and won't ever leave (you like that one- LoL!).

It felt good to rediscover his genious. I began to reanalyze the meaning of the song and rememebered the many double entendres, intricate drawn descriptions, hidden meanings, deepness, crazy flow patterns and cadences, and outright dopeness in the song.

Some of my favorite lines:
* "so trill and so sincere- Yeah, I'm both them there.
Took both pills, when the bloke in a trench coat and the locs in the chair had approached him here" Hopefully you all caught that one- its one of his easier lines to comprehend. An obvious reference to the matrix. I like it because I can see clearly the scene where Morpheus offeres Neo the red or blue pill....

* "Now as far as the hearing, I've found it. It was as far as the distance from an earring to the ground is... of the doorknockers on the ear of a stewardess in a Lear... She fine and she flyin, I feel I'm flying by'em 'cause my mind's on cloud nine and in her mind at the same time"

* "Something really stinks, but I Spinks/Sphinx like Leon Or lion in the desert"
this is just dope line filled with double entendres... but the meaning is what makes this so dope. You know the hip hop game stinks but he cant smell it like the sphinx- or lion in the desert whose nose was cut off by Alexander The Great. You might have to study to fully comprehend his lyrics.

There are so many others in the song, those are just a few. There's a sequence in the 3rd verse where he talks about making the water rise to the level of an airplane but does so in a way that requires the listener to pay close attention. Anyway, you need to pull The Cool out of the library and get your eat on. I really hope he drops another album some time soon and it better not be The E.N.D. like he promised. Check the video below:

So I hit up the Lady Gaga show last night at The Fine Line Music Cafe in downtown Minneapolis... This girl is sooooooooo dope! She definitely put on a show. Her outfits are outrageous, she's super sexy, very provacative, and she can SING (watch that Poker Face performance)! She's what my guys and I call "serious business." I'm not really a fan of super pop music but there's something about this young lady... She definitely earned more cool points when she came out dancing to Cudi's Day n Nite! SIDE NOTE: I finally heard Day n Nite on the radio the other day, tombout it was "New"- Booooo! You're 6 months late idiots! Anyhoozle, check out the videos below- Enjoy:

This is for the lovers... Lovers of that good stuff. I'm talking about the good stuff that doesnt make it to radio (ie: Moment of Truth by GangStarr).... This is the album for you. I will admit, I never really listened to Little Brother. I heard a few of their joints but never got into them. Maybe I would if I gave them a real chance.

Anyway, one of the members, Phonte started chatting with some random guy (Nicolay) from the Netherlands on a forum at OkayPlayer.com... They started trading instrumental tracks and vocals back and forth through something like AOL/AIM until they had an album. Craaaazy right?!!??? They hadnt even met face to face but it turned out to be super dope!

So, Leaving It All Behind is their sophomore effort and its another BANGER! Poeple are so stuck on the voicebox era that they forget how good music really can be. Im sick of the radio- I dont even listen anymore. Someone told me the other day, they heard Day n' Nite by Kid Cudi on the radio... Wow!! Im happy for the Cudder but cmon now, me and my people been bangin that joint since like August 2008!

Okay, let me stop rambling and encourage you to check out their new album. Its like mellow jazz type R&B mixed with house music to these low key, yet rich backdrops. The featured artsists are more soulful than Phonte, who sings through most of the album- but it definitely works. A welcome change form mundane wackness you hear on the radio and see on the video channels.

Drizzy Drake Rogers- Get Familiar...

I first heard this dude on Lil Wayne's Dedication III mixtape with Dr Drama... I think it sucks but this guy Drake is the only highlight. So, over the past few months, Ive heard him featured on a few other Lil Wayne tracks... He's pretty consistent and I'm remembering this guy's name! So, about a month ago, I heard the joints with Santogold and Lykke Li... Okay, I didn't know dude could sing too and he's pretty creative with his art! I'm impressed... So, when I heard he was dropping a mixtape, "So Far Gone," I had to get my hands on it. Now, I'm blown away...

"So Far Gone" is an INSTANT CLASSIC and will be in heavy rotation at the condo- straight up! It features the three artists I mentioned above, as well as, Bun B., and Trey Songz. I did a little research on this guy because I heard he wrote tracks for Dr. Dre's new album, Detox. Turns out, he's not very new. He's quite popular in Canada, as he is an actor on a popular TV show up there in Toronto and has landed roles in a couple movies. I hear NBA superstars, LeBron James and Chris Paul are huge fans, and for good reason.

Anyway, I really enjoy discovering new dope music before it becomes widespread. I'm really looking forward to his debut album, "Room for Improvement" to see if he can put an album together. That's the real test but I'm not worried!

This mix is full of your favorites- you'll be singing along all the way to club! Fellas... I'm gonna put you up on game here. The possibilities are endless... I dont have time to make a new entry and post a picture for every artist for whom I have a complete discography. I put all the artists' albums on one CD in mp3 format; I can usually fit about 10 albums on one CD. You should try it; its a great way to condense and catalog your music collection.

From there, you can pop the CD into your computer and copy the albums into your music folder. Then, you can transfer the files onto your iPod, burn the CDs individually for your car, or whatever else you want to do! Most DVD players will play mp3 CDs and newer car stereos play them as well! I recently went on a roadtrip and banged my Jay-Z mp3 for over 10hrs straight- reminiscing and reliving the times when those records dropped! It was pretty dope to have it all on one CD.

In cases such as John Legend, who has only released three studio albums and one live album, I add all feature songs and collaborations to fill the empty space. In some cases, I add another artists' catalog; John Legend and D'Angelo for example!
